Lip Product of the Week: Yves Saint Laurent Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain

Lip products are among the most numerous in my makeup collection simply because, unlike the eyeliner or mascara that I wear every day, I love switching up lip colors and textures. Like most beauty addicts, somehow I've managed to collect six or seven red lipsticks (they're totally different enough that I can justify having all of them!), and many other lip products from lip balms to lip stains. Because of this love of lip products, we've decided to start a new series that features a quick review of a lip product, drugstore or high-end, that we love, hate or just started trying. This week we're featuring Yves Saint Laurent Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in Rouge Gouache. These YSL Glossy Stains are the company's attempt to produce a product that lasts like a stain,but doesn't cause dry lips, and instead acting more like a gloss upon application.

Personally, I love the way this looks when I first put it on. I only use one layer, and I find that it gives a perfect color for everyday that is both vibrant and different from a typical pink or nude lip, but still wearable. On my lips this color is a sheer, red-toned berry. I love that it's a deeper color than any kind of pink, and the sheer, glossiness makes it perfect to wear everyday.

Although the color lasts for a few hours after application, I wouldn't actually call it a stain. I need to reapply it after a couple of hours, and in my experience, the color won't really last through a meal.

In general, I like the scents of most lip products, and this one is no exception. The floral scent of the glossy stain definitely smells strong and to be honest, artificial, but I really like it.

The glossy stains are fairly pricey, retailing at $36 each. I highly doubt I will purchase another one, given the fact that it's not as long-wearing as I would have hoped, but I do really love this color.
